ALCOHOL, OPIATES & BENZODIAZEPINE Detoxification & Stabilisation Treatment
 

We use  Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) and Carbamazepine (Tegretol) for the Alcohol detoxification and also commence a Clonidine or Methadone opiate detox, whichever the client has chosen. [ please 'click' on Opiate link below to view the Clonidine & Methadone detox details ]

The client is assessed pre-admission and again prior to commencing detox to determine the appropriate Librium dose, based on  the client's withdrawal symptoms, height, weight and amount of substances used.

This will cover both Alcohol and Benzodiazepine withdrawal.

Once the Alcohol and Opiate detox is completed,the client is assessed as to whether there is a need for further benzodiazepine detox.

If required, the Benzo detoxification would continue using Diazepam with Carbamazepine (Tegretol) to safeguard against Benzodiazepine withdrawal seizures.

If there is a medical reason for not using Librium, (e.g. the client has liver failure) our G.P's will prescribe suitable alternatives. 

In addition to the above, all clients admitted for detox will have the following medication:

Pabrinex I.M. daily for 5 days followed by Thiamine and Vitamin B co strong daily for the remainder of the detox period and for 2 weeks after discharge.

All females are pregnancy- tested prior to any dose of medication being given. If a female client is pregnant our G.P's will be consulted prior to commencing any medications. A letter from the client’s Consultant Obstetrician will be required to confirm that it is safe to commence detox prior to admission.

In addition to the Medical Detoxification,clients have the benefit of:

              Support

4.    Involvement in the Modified 12-Step Therapeutic Stabilisation Programme, and the therapeutic community of the House

5. Sleepy Teas to help  develop normal sleep patterns

 6.  Peer Support at all times.
