ALCOHOL-Specific Detoxification & Stabilisation Treatment.

If a client is using other substances as well as Alcohol we can provide a combined Alcohol and Other Substances Detoxification.

For ALCOHOL, we normally use a Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) detoxification protocol.

Clients are assessed pre-admission and again prior to commencing Detox to determine the appropriate dose of Librium. This assessment is based on the client's:

-          withdrawal symptoms

           height

-         weight

-         how much alcohol is being used

If the client has a medical reason for not being given a Librium detox (e.g. if the client has liver failure) our G.P's will consider suitable alternatives.

Carbamazepine (Tegretol) is used to safeguard against alcohol withdrawal seizures.

In addition to the above, all clients being admitted for an Alcohol detox will have the following:-

- Pabrinex I.M. on a daily basis for 5 days followed by Thiamine and Vitamin B co strong daily for the remainder of the detox period and for 2 weeks after discharge.

In addition to the Medical Detoxification, all clients will have the benefit of:

1. Access to Auricular Acupuncture to help relieve anxiety and stress

2. 24- hour Qualified Nursing cover support

3. 24- hour project worker / qualified Therapist support

4. Integration into the therapeutic community of the House

5. Involvement in the Modified 12-Step Therapeutic Stabilisation Programme

6. Sleepy Teas to help facilitate normal sleep patterns

7. Constant peer Support
